Regional Sports
Development
Aims of the Project
To develop an effective
link between black & ethnic minority (BME) communities
and sports organisations, Sport England and local authorities.
To provide advice
and guidance to sports organisations, local authorities and
community groups about the issues affecting the participation
in sport by local ethnic minority groups
To provide a 'sounding
board' for initiatives to promote sport in the East Midlands
and ensure that all initiatives take account of the needs
of BME communities.
Objectives of
the Project
- To raise the level of awareness about Sport England resources
within BME communities.
- To build more effective links between the BME communities
and the local sports development functions and other sports
organisations eg. Regional Governing Bodies of Sport, County
Sports Partnerships, Active Sports Programmes, East Midlands
Sport, Sport England.
- To ensure that members of local BME communities benefit
from a targeted, co-ordinated approach to sports education
and training and coach education.
- To link into the national Sporting Equals network in order
to share good practice.
- To develop a support network for the project which could
help to guide the project and work towards sustainability.
